As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, I help individuals and couples to navigate towards abundant life through holistic, faith-based, clinically sound treatment interventions. I believe that most of our experiences are influenced by our mindset. Therefore, I teach clients how to monitor and restructure their thinking so that they can remove mental obstacles, and experience real joy and fulfillment.
Having transitioned from the public school system after 16 years as an educator, I naturally incorporate the educational process into my therapeutic approach with clients. Based on my observation, some struggles that people experience are simply the result of not knowing a better way. Silent forces like faulty thought patterns, called cognitive distortions, can sabotage one’s access to abundant life. Understanding these patterns empowers clients to deal with them effectively. I enjoy teaching clients how to exchange unhealthy thoughts, dysfunctional relationships, toxic communications, and destructive behaviors for new patterns involving positive, productive, and constructive ways of being.
I bring to the field of counseling a wealth of knowledge and experience to serve a diverse clientele. I have worked in Domestic Violence Counseling; provided Pastoral Care as a Lay Minister in faith-based organizations; facilitated small groups of adult women, supporting their development of requisite skills necessary for their respective roles as wives and moms; and served as a Certified Life Coach providing Relationship and Spiritual Coaching. I currently work in outpatient mental health treating individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMIs) in addition to my work with individuals and couples at Sonja Williams and Associates. I hold a Masters degree in Professional Counseling and will complete a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy by Spring 2023.
